[00:00:16] The Rancors Brothel presents... The Big Sleep A Cthulhu Mythos 5e Adventure

[00:01:25] You're all standing in a cavern. You've killed quite a few things in here. Did we take all their hands? Yes. Sweet. It was very sleepy at the end of the last session, so I vaguely remember what happened.

[00:01:38] One of them is a serpentine, and is a what they call debased serpentfolk. That's what they're called. A what? A debased serpentfolk. Debased? Humanoid serpent. So like debased and like he liked having things done to him debased or? I don't know just what it's called. Snake pervert. Gotcha.

[00:01:57] I like it. I'm going to remember that much better than debased. There's also a handful of individuals who are passed out on pallets similar in the way that you saw in the drug doom. They are alive. They did not fight you. That's what's my question.

[00:02:17] You mean they were alive? Apparently they were not engaged the entire time from what he's telling. I slit all their throats. That's up to you. I guess they're all dead now. See? Now we have no more problems. No witnesses.

[00:02:36] Let's see, I can reread you the description of this room if you'd like. This long limestone cavern has been converted into a crude living space. Several of the larger stalagmites have been carved into crude figures resembling a cross between a fat toad and a giant bat. Oh, Krog!

[00:02:59] Everything else is the description of the people that you've already fought as well as the people on the pallets that you have now killed. There are three doors, the one you came from, which is from the west.

[00:03:12] There's one all the way on the other side of the cavern and then there's one directly center south. So you can either go south or continue east. There's also a pool of water where the serpent guy was at.

[00:03:28] It seems to be fresh water at least because he was drinking out of it. Okay, is there light in here? Yeah, one of the individuals is a cook. He was cooking at a cauldron. There's a fire lit there. There's no torches or sconces?

[00:03:48] Yeah, there's torches here and there. It's lit enough to see in here at least. It is a living quarter so humans can't see in the dark. How many of you can? I think all of us. You all have dark vision? Welcome to fifth!

[00:04:04] If you're not human, you basically get dark vision. Not everyone. Originally the Tritons didn't. I know. Which I'm like, I can survive in the deepest, coldest waters. But I can't see down there. That makes zero sense guys. Dogman, lizard, fish, cat, literal, cat. Yep. I think we're good.

[00:04:29] Yeah, we got all the pets. Can I investigate the statues of Bo Krog? They aren't Bo Krog but sure. Did he say frog? He said frog. Robot thing. A toad-like creature with bat wings. You bite, ain't you? You've been athletic. Yeah, I mean that's what it is.

[00:04:55] It's hand carved, somewhat crudely. Toad with bat wings. That's what you see. Like tiny bat wings? Or proportionally sized? Not really as proportional as you'd think they could be. Should be. It's also not an A plus carving. C minus at best. Oh, okay.

[00:05:22] Did we ever find out if those drugs were worth anything? Drugs are always worth something to the right people. Yep, there you go. To Bo Krog. It's Bo Krog. That's what I'm imagining it is. I know what Bo Krog is. Yeah. Big sleep, dream lands.

[00:05:38] I know what's up here. We hid from them. Slash-totem. Ran. Mostly. Ran, that's what I thought. Yeah. Still one of my, still probably one of my top lovecraft stories actually. A doom that came to Sarnath. A solid one. If you're going to read one, it's up there.

[00:05:56] Probably wouldn't be my pick, but it's pretty close. So there's no iconography, no Yog Sathri, no history on what this lizard that is not Bo Krog is? Yeah, you can roll religion or Yog Sathri if you have it. It is Yog Sathri. It replaced something in this game.

[00:06:21] I don't remember which one it was. It's a wisdom I think it replaced. Street wise. It is a wisdom check. It's always a wisdom check. There were rules for Yog Sathri that I should probably open up.

[00:06:34] Nope, I'm just going to roll real well and everything's going to go fine. Here we go. First roll of the night. That's a 15 on Yog Sathrothri. What else did you say we could roll on? That or religion? Religion. Bad religion. Good news in my religion. 18 on religion.

[00:06:56] He's going to tell us it's the cult of Roku. 16 on Yog Sathrothri. 24 on religion. Cool. We just got fucking one up each other all the way down the goddamn table. Fuck me I guess. Everybody understands that this is not Bo Krog, this is a depiction of Satagwa.

[00:07:15] I guess that makes sense. It is the cult of Satagwa. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. That does make a little more sense. Why does the cult of Satagwa have a Bo Krog statue labeled as Satagwa? Repurposed. Plagiarism. I mean that Mithras guy basically like Christ you know.

[00:07:48] Zeus more or less same thing. He spells as... They call him formulas in here instead of rituals. So Yog Sathrothri check measures your ability to recall Mithos. It's the Mithos role in this game. Formulate and understand Mithos. Gain proficiency and strains.

[00:08:05] Gaining proficiency in Yog Sathrothri strains the mind of most creatures other than apparitions, fiends, usas, and undead. If you're proficient in this skill you take a penalty equal to half your proficiency bonus on saving throws against dread.

[00:08:19] Confusion and sanity madness magical effects that give you frightened condition and similar effects. We haven't really dreaded anything yet have we? Oh I have. If there's a role that can be failed I'll fail. Which reminds me anyone who's taken dread at this point your... I'm good.

[00:08:37] The reasons for getting them have dissipated so you can erase your dread and go back to zero. That's probably clutch for me because... I think you were at three weren't you? Oh what a... probably the worst.

[00:08:49] I thought it was at least two but it might have been three. I know there's been three or four roles. The answer is that it's zero now. Most people wouldn't have been passing them because it's a wisdom role. Barbarian. He gets it all cleared out?

[00:09:04] Yeah like the way it's written is the... Whatever is causing the dread it just takes a certain amount of time for it to dissipate. Like one of them actually was and I didn't bother to have any role on it.

[00:09:17] One of the cultists if you were to actually wait and go to the mass what's happening causes you to roll for dread based on the main guy who had the most hit points that took you guys forever to kill because he's the one performing the ritual.

[00:09:30] To remember to kill off most of his cult. Whatever he's saying causes you guys to kind of like lose your mind a little bit. Once he's dead that dread goes away immediately because he was the one causing it.

[00:09:40] And some of it is just over hours or days of time. It's been long enough whatever other dread you've taken for other things it can go away. So does that mean we need to pick a door now? Pretty much. South. Left.

[00:10:02] No one has the expertise feature do they? Expertise in what? Feature. If you have the expertise feature or another trait or feature that modifies how you apply your proficiency bonus on all wisdom, Yogg's et al. The saving throws penalty becomes hacked to modify proficiency. Expertise like isn't that...

[00:10:23] Must be a feat. Yeah like a barred thing maybe. It specifies something that applies to your proficiency bonus on wisdom. I don't have a php in front of me but I think rogues get expertise. I think it's an ability but possibly also a feat.

[00:10:42] Where you get like plus your... For instance if you have expertise feature applied to Yogg's et al. You would apply double your proficiency bonus on the ability checks. Yeah yeah cause that's just what expertise does. First level rogues. So if nobody has it then don't worry about it.

[00:11:01] Yeah no I just with the way you said expertise I was like is he talking about... It's an actual one. I think it's... Bards might be able to get it but... I know it's definitely a thief thing. Cause it's their make up for not having all the...

[00:11:13] Oh fuck what was it? That chart in a third ed book where you could like... You guys know that. Taking skills. Remember how the tree always sucked balls but when you were a rogue you could take like almost anything.

[00:11:25] That's their make up for it because basically since now the tree is smaller and you can do whatever the hell you want. I think the rogues get double on shit or whatever it is. Yeah bards get it at level three. Okay yeah we're on the same page.

[00:11:37] So that's that. It is Satagwa. The cauldron is boiling with some kind of gruel. All of these individuals also are wearing green robes and silver amulets. I don't think any of them... Let me check I don't think any of these guys had gold ones.

[00:11:55] You found one gold one on the main guy from the ritual area. I have flint so we have like eight gold ones I think. No you only have one. It's the first one you guys found. I'm sure we got five.

[00:12:09] Yeah there were so many of them in the last fight. There was one before this. There were so many people that had gold ones. No he was the only one wearing one. I just added that audio. I'm telling you I wrote it down.

[00:12:21] I wouldn't have written it down if it didn't happen. Then perhaps I misspoke. We have at least two. I'll give you two at least. It doesn't really matter to me how many you have but I don't remember you coming across that many.

[00:12:33] Now somebody needs to go back and listen to that episode when it comes out. And scream I knew it at Lucas and I'll go back in and Ninja edit this so he doesn't know. Just remind me. Liar! Bum bum!

[00:12:48] Sorry everyone except the serpent folk is wearing a holy symbol of Satagwa. Near the drug-addled individuals you've killed you find two of those greenish colored elixirs that you haven't really identified entirely yet as the drug. There's also a bunch of empty vials strewn around them.

[00:13:13] And you do find a purse containing 48 gold pieces and so 17 silver pieces. Mark that down! There are folks at the end of the table that can make cool stuff if we give them money. It's true. How many stigils was it? It was... Who's writing down the money? Four.

[00:13:36] 48 gold. I'm playing a character class that basically have two claws and mouth. I'm a cat. I'm a money. I'm a cat. Neither Flynn nor I will probably ever buy anything short of potentially a magic item. Or can it make them? You can infuse stuff. Legitimately. Yeah.

[00:14:00] You did mark that you're trying into magic now, right? Yes. How much silver did you say? Silver pieces were 17 gold pieces were 48. That was off of the cook. I just need to get access to a shop so I can start getting materials. Where would you like to go?

[00:14:17] East or south? Which way's left? The only thing to your left are more bends. What if I turn? Which direction? Turn back west so we can go south. I'm scratching at the door like I want to be let out. You head... South is our reason. Fair enough.

[00:14:39] There are two doors. I turn 270 degrees and go left, which is now south. It doesn't matter you can see in the dark, but it does go into kind of a darker, fairly narrow corridor. Probably only you almost have to walk in a line to get through it.

[00:14:55] I hurl the cat. You do see beyond that, you do see a cavern. And it fucking reeks of rot. It reeks of rot in here. I... You smelled death.

[00:15:16] Grab a rock, use some magic tinkering and toss it in there so we can get some extra light in there. See if anything goes for it. She just threw a flare. Pretty much. It lights up.

[00:15:29] I'm not expected to do anything go for it, because I don't want to get attacked. So are you in front then? Are you leading the way since you were especially at the door? Sure. I'll roll stealth. Go ahead. Sneak ahead. Oh, that's one. Cool. A hair ball.

[00:15:57] It's a hair ball. It's cool no one heard me. Come on, come on. Rolling your perception shots. Just you. Is... 14. Up on the catwalk. It does a little turn.

[00:16:15] Cat starts creeping in, creeping in and as he lifts his paw, he feels something tug and stops and realizes that there's a trip wire right in front of him. Uh oh. What is... That's very generous. I would have blown your ass to bits on a one.

[00:16:31] No, no. The one was for his stealth. He got the perception check. I will meow. Meow. I did raise the DC because of his stealth. I grabbed it. I grabbed the trip wire and just yank. I'm lying behind you. I'm lying behind you.

[00:16:50] The right in front of you where that trip wire... If you yank the trip wire, it activates the trap and the floor kind of just drops to a slope right in front of you. As if you were to slide in there.

[00:17:01] And it's fairly clear where you're standing from here now that the floor kind of drops and that you can kind of see beyond it with the extra light. Not that that matters. You can all see in the dark. It is a pit full of dead bodies. Oof.

[00:17:14] Like full of countless bodies. And various states of decay from skeleton to... Well, roll me a medicine jack. 18. Or 19, sorry. You can guess that the most recent body is about two weeks old. Damn. And they're all riddled with stab wounds. Hadn't you been looking for dead bodies?

[00:17:43] Sure was. These are down in a pit though. They are any pit. That was trapped. Based on the amount of bodies in here. You don't see the bottom. How far down to the body? How far down to the body? To like the top of the pile of...

[00:18:01] How far I got to walk to get to the buffet? Looks like about 15 to 20 feet drop. The room itself, the cavern itself is about... It's not quite a circle, but it's about 15 by 15. It's a little... More like 20 by 15, 20 long 15 to your left and right.

[00:18:26] Obviously it's a completely dead end, no pun intended. Just filled with the brim with rotting bodies. Well, go and grab a snack or... Yep, bug ups huh? There's some fresher bodies right behind you if you're hungry. No, no, no. Older than better. Pretty fucking age.

[00:18:51] Like a fine wine. Well, if he really wants them, we could just tie one of the ropes I have in the pack to one of his axes and just go fishing. That's fun. It's not a bad idea. You can make a claw machine. Give me enough time.

[00:19:09] Wrap a rope around me and I'll be the claw. Did it work? You just tried it. You're not getting my try. You don't have to worry about losing it. That's true, you can just recall it. It's not like it's gonna go away.

[00:19:23] I mean, I understand I'm the ghoul but there is some reason why we may want to investigate one of those bodies if we can get ahold of one. Then also, their cultists... Is there any loot on these folks? No, no. These aren't cultists.

[00:19:43] No, I said that these are cultists. Did they leave the loot on these people? Oh no, they're naked. Well, that's... Did you want one of the bodies? If we can get ahold of one, I can do some cool stuff. How are you going to fish this body out?

[00:20:04] I mean... We have several options. Didn't you say now that we have a slope? Pretty steep slope, yeah. Tie a rope around you and... Yeah, I'm not opposed to it. I had to the cat. You said there was a lag mic. There are still lag mites, right?

[00:20:24] All the way back in that cavern, yeah. So this cavern has no features of still lag mites? I may not, I'm just curious. No. No, it's just a cave pit. Good ol' cave pit. They call it the corpse pit, so... Like you do. Alright.

[00:20:47] I don't even know if I have much in the way of equipment. Oh, my God. You got arms, don't you? Yeah. That's true. I've got tools. Lots of them. Yeah, we should get ahold of one. Um... I guess gear is the correct term in this situation. How...

[00:21:17] It says 15 feet down, down the slope, roughly? Roughly. 50-foot rope. I got that. I will go... I will be the claw of the claw machine. Okay. Are all three of you then feeding the rope? Well, the two of you that have opposable thumbs feeding the rope.

[00:21:36] I'm licking my ass. Pretty much. What's your cat doing? Um... Give me... I would say a disadvantage, but since you're both doing it, go ahead and both give me strength checks. Oh, it's a little... It's not a good number. What did you get? 18.

[00:22:04] He begins to slip a little faster than you want. You got claws, so I'll help... I'll allow you all three to roll dexterity saving throws to catch him. And you can try to catch yourself with your claws. I mean, I'm gonna fall in a soft pile of bodies. 18. 16.

[00:22:28] Okay. You guys catch him. You guys catch him before he slides all the way into the bodies. You're within arm's length. Depends on if you want the freshest one on top or if you're trying to get through that. I do not. Grab a couple.

[00:22:46] Probably won't come out in one piece, but you can get a torso or a head or whatever you want out of it. I'm just gonna take some pieces and just start throwing them back up the ramp. If any of them look like, say, particularly strong

[00:23:00] or maybe noble in any particular way or yeah, I'm looking for unique... I don't want to look for common bits of body. Sure. Whether they're particularly strong or whatever. It doesn't really matter what part I get, but... I mean, you can get pieces, pieces. Pieces and pieces.

[00:23:20] Probably not even all from the same body. Yeah, no, I don't want them all from the same body. Yeah, sure. Sweet. Rotted, disgusting. The older the better. Strength checks to pull them up, since it's a rough slope. 19. 19. 19 and 9? He begins to slip again. Halfway up he slips.

[00:23:48] Oh no, I let go of the rope. Roll a deck saving throw again. I mean, I would like to use my strength to climb. I feel like I could do it. 9 on a deck saving throw, because I'm a barbarian. Got 14. 22. Dragon board saves you.

[00:24:07] Am I 14? I guess fuck me. I was given another 15. It's... Eventually you slowly and slowly you guys can get him back up. You have body parts. And a hallway that is... I mean, like I said, you can't really cluster. You kind of stand on that align.

[00:24:23] I'm just glad I didn't do everything reading all the time. I did other things as an artificer. So you can take these out into the cavern and look them over if you wish. Yeah. Or eat them, whatever it is you want to do.

[00:24:37] Yeah, no, I'm going to find three pieces that look to be older and tend to have distinctly different looking features as best as I could tell. Sure, easily. And I will start and I will spend some time eating if you guys want to do whatever

[00:24:59] you'd like to do. Or you can watch I'll offer a piece if anybody wants some. Yes. I'm just going to stare at you intently. Is this something... Does this do anything to you mechanically? Yes, that's what I'm doing. Please explain to myself and the listeners.

[00:25:15] Well, you know everything. Yeah, I know it all. Yeah, so what does it give me, Lucas? Is he a stuff? So basically feeding on a corpse less than 24 hours dead provides no benefit nourishment. If you spend one minute feeding on an older corpse

[00:25:35] that has some amount of flesh, even dried flesh from a mummy you gain insight into a skill or tool that the creature was proficient with, specify a skill or tool you believe the creature may have possessed. If you're correct, you gain that insight.

[00:25:49] If the creature lacked that proficiency, you gain an insight of the GM's choice instead. So basically I get to... I absorb some of the lingering traces of memory and knowledge that the creature possessed in life. So a lot of it is supposed to be like

[00:26:03] skill or tool based. I think it would be more fun if it was narrative based personally, but that's me. And I can maintain up to a total of three insights each time I use this trait. So if it's like, oh, this guy knows how to use these tools

[00:26:19] or whatever, guess what? I now know how to use these tools because I ate part of him. And I can maintain that until I choose to forget it by eating someone else and gaining a different insight. So mostly here it's fun to explain that mechanic

[00:26:31] so that you could potentially use it throughout because I'm going to eat anything I come across. But also the opportunity to provide narrative or additional skills or whatever the case may be. Basically allows me three additional skills in... Does it give you proficiency

[00:26:46] and certain skills? Is that one of those? So I'm supposed to be like, this guy knew thieves tools and I eat and if he did, I get that. But it says if they lack that proficiency you gain an insight of the GM's choice instead.

[00:27:01] So if I just guess thieves tools and eat one and then thieves tools and then eat one and then thieves tools and then eat one chances are if none of them knew thieves tools I'd get three insights that you choose instead. Okay. What are you trying to

[00:27:20] insight off the first one then? I mean if you want to make it cool in narrative the thing would be how they died. Oh, yeah. Like if I can't determine it any other way like if you foreshadow a ritual that we're going to find around the corner

[00:27:34] that would be cool. So do you get a vision of the thing? Is that how this works? It just says that if I'm correct I gain that insight. If you lack that proficiency you gain an insight and you're going to be a thief.

[00:27:48] So if you're going to be a thief you gain an insight of the thing that you choose instead. You add half your proficiency bonus to ability checks using a skill or tool blah blah blah. All right, let's have a little fun with it.

[00:28:02] You can normally gain only proficiency. So then you're going to say I guess they died this way and eat. That's what you're doing. Well this specifies really as tools or proficiencies. I think the way it's written is you make a guess and we'll just go with it.

[00:28:20] Yeah, no, because I think it'd be awesome to have these tools so I'm going to consistently guess thieves tools. Sooner or later I may get thieves tools and then maybe I'll guess something else. But if not then maybe I'll get horror- None of these three people would know

[00:28:32] thieves tools. They're commoners. I could tell you how they died. Like I said, it's whatever you want to do. But that's what I'm going to do while eating bodies because it's cool. At least these three are all commoners. They're individuals who have just up and disappeared.

[00:28:49] Likely drug addicts. I gain proficiency with heroin. There you go. You know what? I'll give you this because it would be in their systems. I'll give you this. You understand what the drug in that file does. Okay. Sweet. I'll take that.

[00:29:15] Basically puts you into a drug-addled sleep state to a sort of mimicked dreamlands but not really the dreamlands. And what you visualize is nothing but death in multiple ways while staying calm and accepting sleep as your final state. That's why you kind of understand

[00:29:48] why everyone is saying sleep the sleep of angels with us. Come and sleep with us. Don't drink the Kool-Aid. So that's what that stuff does. Sweet. And I believe... I mean, you wouldn't know the name of it.

[00:30:08] But I could tell you that it's called the elixir of Zoth. The elixir of Zoth! That's what that does and it would have been in their systems when they died. So they probably taste a little funny. No, I would say if they were drug addicts,

[00:30:24] I think you would have had every right for me to start tripping balls depending on if it's got magic drugs in them or not. I'd say they're long enough dead that you're probably okay. Picking bits of senior. More recent one, maybe.

[00:30:37] It doesn't work unless they're 24 hours or older. Like I said, if you can get mummies, you can get multiple insides. Yeah, but you're a ghoul. You can eat whatever you want. You can eat a fresh corpse. Yeah, but it just doesn't provide any insight. It's fun. Not hungry.

[00:30:50] Don't you get two more of his choice because you ate three bodies? Yeah. Like I said, it depends on how he wants to play it. I've kind of surprised him, so I'm not going to fight over whether or not I know thieves' tools.

[00:31:01] Well, if you ever learn thieves' tools, I have a second set that you can borrow. None of these people would have known how to use these tools. Although now I kind of want to go back and eat those other bodies

[00:31:12] because it's probably like those cordial cherries that you get at Christmas. Ooh, fucking high from eating a drug addict. That's a bad shitty dreamland. You see me rip one of their legs off and bite it and all of a sudden my eyes start doing the swirly thing

[00:31:33] and Inagata DeVita plays in the background. Sweet. Alright, so keep that in mind, Lucas. Every time you fight a corpse, probably going to eat it. Sure. So then your other... Your exits are the exit you came into the west or to the east.

[00:31:47] Would you have not gone yet? So this is just body pit room? That is nothing but a body pit. Why is it trapped then? Because if you fall in it, you can sink into it and suffocate. I mean, I understand mechanically.

[00:31:59] So I'm wondering if they trap it if it's just their trash can. I don't know. They don't want... In case some nosy animal people walk in there. Why do people put nets over trash to keep pros away? Yeah, let's go through the other door. Must go east.

[00:32:17] Alright, you... You go to the east and this corridor goes for a fairly lengthy amount of time. It kind of curves a little further south as you go. And you come to a fork. There is a more northern path to your left or you can continue going.

[00:32:47] I think you know where we're going. It's up to you. Great, there's a path left. You tell me, man. Gotta go left. I heard there was a giant fork in the road. I'm not going to ask him how many tines. And Soviet Russia road forks you.

[00:33:05] I think I'll do me tunes a bit. Turn left at the fork in the road and there's literally like a fork. No, yeah. Again, it's a really... It's actually a longer tunnel than where you just came from. This one curves more easterly as it goes. So...

[00:33:25] Two tines to the fork. Yep. You come to a doorway at the end. I scratch at it. I kick it off at ten just. I mean, the door opens and inside looks to be some sort of cellar with barrels. I'm not sure if it's a cellar

[00:33:50] or a cellar. It's a sort of cellar with barrels and a stairwell that goes up to a trapdoor at the ceiling. I push the cellar door up enough for the cat to sneak out. Before we leave the cellar, it has barrels and the like.

[00:34:14] Is it foodstuffs or is it a different kind of... You'd have to go in and look. Who's... We're in the cellar. Who walks in first. Hey. The lizard. You're at the canary in this scenario. I throw the cat. That solves it. I got a four.

[00:34:38] I'm a fastball special for some reason. I don't know why. The dragonborn walks in first. We threw the cat in. What are you doing? I walk in. What do I see? My friends. My brothers and sisters. That's a deep cut. You step in and you hear a click

[00:35:02] and a saw blade shoots from the wall in front of you. Out at you. Nice! Not really a deep cut when we mention it. Literally every game. A penitent man, praise. Only the penitent will pass. Only the penitent will pass. Only the penitent will pass.

[00:35:22] The penitent man kneels before God. I'm guessing it's a dex save. It actually lists it as a melee attack by it. Does a 17 hit you? I don't think so. No. Pretty sure he's north of 20. I like the idea. He's like, the penitent man will pass

[00:35:40] and he drops down and hits him square in the chest and just flops on the ground. He's like, oh. That wasn't so bad. I could use this. They fucked up. They gave you a big ass saw blade. That they did.

[00:35:58] I'm going to imagine that you take a step back at least as it tries to hit you and you step off the pressure plate and it shoots back into the wall. He steps on it again so he can take the saw blade. You wink.

[00:36:14] Did I see how far the saw blade came out of the wall? Just bend down and push it with your hand. I'll stick my foot in there and just step on the pressure plate but nothing more than my foot. According to this, it's about 20 foot by 20 foot room

[00:36:30] so shot 20 feet out to you. 20 feet of steel. I can take 20 feet of steel. It's on a record retractable arm that pulls it out of the wall. I'm going to go back and it's on a record retractable arm that pulls it back into the wall.

[00:36:48] Step on the plate, we're taking this with us. I slice it off I detach it from the wall. That one misses too. It's currently sticking out of the wall I detach it from the wall that trap is no longer used. It's not going to work that way.

[00:37:04] Why not? Because you have to disarm there's different ways to disarm this trap and that's not one of them. I can't break these. It's not a creature to attack. I'm not attacking it I'm disassembling it. Disassemble. So the spinning arm comes out of the

[00:37:28] the spinning blade comes out on an arm. Then what's it do? If you step off the plate it gets sucked back into the wall. Okay if I stay standing on the plate it will try to eat your face off. But it's just a spinning blade

[00:37:42] that's going to set arm. Is it like 20 feet around? Is it like panning the room? We need some context here. No, it hits where that plate is at. Right, so if I just step my I stepped away from the plate

[00:37:58] I step my foot in and just push on the plate. The arm shoots out at you If that's what you want to do then I'll roll to hit again. There's nobody to hit though. There is because you're on the plate. Whoever's on the plate is.

[00:38:12] How high up is the saw blade? It's large It's very large. If I stepped on it would it be way over my head because I'm a tiny cat? You don't weigh enough. Let's move forward I'll find a way to disarm it later. I'll disarm this thing later.

[00:38:32] That's why I ignored the fact that you went in first. Got it. Hey guys there's a trap step over it. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. We're in the room. I'd like to inspect a barrel. Um Perception check. Roll swim. Which barrel? How many are there? 18? There are ten.

[00:39:02] Ten? Five on each side. Any distinguishing markers on these barrels? Like the word wine or three X's? Um I'm not sure. Or three X's? Or the word explosive. You can use that. No, there are no distinguishing markers on them. Is there one that's set off from the others?

[00:39:22] Do they have spouts? A couple of them do have spouts. Like taps? Yeah. So presumably liquid is in them. The rest of them don't. I'd say... Do they have bunk holes? Six of them have taps. And the other four have bunk holes. They're just lidded. Um

[00:39:50] There are two closest to the... I mean it's the whole thing. There's two closest to the tunnel, one on either side and then they just kind of line up. I mean they're not like perfectly placed apart. You asked me which one.

[00:40:06] I didn't know if there was a reason that I would pick one over the other. There's ten to choose from. Okay, I'll pick the one closest to the door. Uh, okay. What was your roll? 18. This one sounds hollow when you... if you tap on it. Meow!

[00:40:33] I kick it over. You see the mechanism that apparently runs the trap inside of it. I kick it over. Yeah, I mean with enough force you can disarm it by destroying it. I start pulling on the lever so maybe the blade

[00:40:53] will pop out so he can turn it into some sort of crazy death race machine later on in the game. If you destroy the mechanism it no longer comes up. Can we take the pieces of the mechanism though? Probably. All he wants is mechanical parts.

[00:41:05] I'll give you a handful of mechanical parts. So he can make his battle bot. That's what his goal is here. You see that it's attached to a rope that has been painted the same color as the stone. So it's like hidden pretty well within the grooves.

[00:41:20] Pull on the rope. It's all attached. Uh, nothing happens. He doesn't want me to get access to a saw blade at this point. That's what I'm getting. Oh. Shouldn't have put it there for us to find. Yeah. So speaking of those barrels though, that one was hollow. Yes.

[00:41:47] We're thieving shi- Should we test to see what else is in the other barrels? Because if it's wine, we just got more money. Well, we should probably also open up the trapdoor and see whose wine we're stealing, but... It's true. Mmm. Eventually.

[00:42:07] Do you want to do that first? I'll do the next barrel and I'll inspect it. Um, this... If you're checking the ones with the spouts, they all appear to have water in them. The others have turnips, carrots and some other vegetables. Turnips.

[00:42:23] This is less cool than I had hoped. Yeah. Can't even get fucked up. Trapdoor? Fix a saw blade, it was more interesting. Uh, yeah, trapdoor. Trapdoor. Push the trapdoor up eeeeeee and peer over it like... I'm up on his shoulder, peering too.

[00:42:41] It appears to be a fairly rundown room. Okay. Dust cover, dirty. Kind of dark. When you can see in there, but it's kind of dark. Okay. So I don't know where I am? No. Are there other doors to this room? Are there windows? Are there... Um...

[00:43:08] Bedding? Um, shelves? You see a window that seems to be boarded up? It's not a very large room. Boarded from inside? Yes. A little stealth check. Okay. That is a 20. Okay. I'll shrink out, and I'm just gonna, like, go to the door, look out, and we'll see.

[00:43:32] To the door that's inside the room? Yeah. Do the cat thing where you scrunch down real low It goes into another room, and, uh, stealth or not, you peek in there and you see a man standing next to two giant rats

[00:43:50] who looks at you, kind of tilts his head and begins to transform. Thank you all for listening. The Big Sleep was written by Sandy Peterson and Jonah Baumgaard's music by Ian Shannon. You can find us online at Raincourt at raincourisbrouffle.com We're joining the conversation on Facebook
